They have a very complex and difficult treatment\nmethodology. In this condition, body\u2019s immune system instead of defending against\ndiseases, attacks the healthy cells in the body as it recognizes them as\nforeign invaders. Autoimmune diseases are often difficult to diagnose. One of\nthe most common autoimmune diseases is Multiple sclerosis (MS). Multiple sclerosis\nis a chronic autoimmune and inflammatory neurological disease of the central\nnervous system. For diagnosis, MRI, spinal taps or blood tests are conducted. Most common\nsymptoms of Multiple sclerosis MS are; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Muscle weakness<\/li><li>Numbness and tingling in the body<\/li><li>Lhermitte&#8217;s sign (sensation like electric shock\nduring movement of the body)<\/li><li>Bladder problems<\/li><li>Bowel problems <\/li><li>Fatigue<\/li><li>Dizziness and vertigo<\/li><li>Sexual dysfunction<\/li><li>Spasticity and muscle spasms<\/li><li>Vision problem<\/li><li>Emotional changes and depression<\/li><li>Learning and memory problem<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Treatment\n&#8211; There is no cure for MS but to slow down the progression of MS various\nmedications and vaccines have been developed. Recently in 2019, a new drug has\nbeen approved that is Mayzent (with the active ingredient being Siponimod) for\nthe treatment of autoimmune disease like Multiple sclerosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n\u2018Novartis AG\u2019 assigned new patent application no. <a href=\"http:\/\/appft.uspto.gov\/netacgi\/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;p=1&amp;u=\/netahtml\/PTO\/srchnum.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;d=PG01&amp;s1=20170027907.PGNR.\"><strong>US20170027907A1<\/strong><\/a>titled \u201cSip modulator immediate\nrelease dosage regimen\u201d discloses the use of a novel drug \u201cSiponimod\u201d (BAF312)\nfor use in the treatment of an autoimmune disease. According to the patented\ninvention, siponimod is used in the dosage form which comprises 2 mg siponimod\nwhich is administered once daily to the patient so as to maintain the regimen.\nBefore that the patient has to experience a titration regimen of 0.25 mg of\nsiponimod at day 1, 0.25 mg at day 2, 0.5 mg at day 3, 0.75 mg at day 4 and\n1.25 mg at day 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\none of the embodiments, the dosage form of siponimod is an oral solid dosage\nform. In another embodiment, the dosage of siponimod is preferably a tablet and\nalternatively the dosage can be a capsule. According to the patent, the\nimmediate release dosage form can be made by mixing siponimod with at least pharmaceutical\nexcipient like lubricants (stearic acid, adipic acid, sodium stearyl fumarate\nand\/or glyceryl behenate), fillers (plant cellulose), disintegrants, glidants\nand binders (saccharose, gelatine, polyvinylpyrrolidone).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although\nthere is no permanent cure for autoimmune diseases like Multiple sclerosis, but\nafter Siponimod (BAF312) drug approval the progression of the disease can be\nslowed down to give the patient some more time. It has reduced the risk of\ndisability progression in twenty six percent of the patients who received the\ndrug.
