It plays a crucial role in automobiles\nto enhance the ride experience as well as vehicle handling by limiting the\nmovement of a vehicle\u2019s body and by providing stabilization. Moreover, there\nare numerous other advantages of its deployment in the motor vehicle as it\nminimizes the maintenance cost by reducing the wear and tear due to excessive\nvibrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Various designs of shock\nabsorbers are there for different applications, which include twin-tube and\nmono-tube. All modern dampers are\nvelocity-sensitive devices with hydraulic damping. Hydraulic damping works on\nthe principle that faster the automobile\u2019s suspension moves, the higher\nresistance it offers as a result of which it decreases the sway or roll and\nbounce rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A paper titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sae.org\/publications\/technical-papers\/content\/2012-01-0814\/\">Recovering energy from shock absorber motion on\nheavy-duty commercial vehicles<\/a>\u201d reveals a different sort of shock absorber.\nNamed Genshock, it improves fuel efficiency by about 1% by generating electrical\nenergy from the linear movement of suspension due to uneven roads which can be\nfurther utilized in the vehicle to decrease alternator\u2019s load.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several patents as well have been\nfiled in recent years that demonstrate the improvements in dampers. Some of the\nimportant ones are listed below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patent <a href=\"https:\/\/worldwide.espacenet.com\/publicationDetails\/biblio?CC=RU&amp;NR=191194U1&amp;KC=U1&amp;FT=D\">RU191194U1<\/a> titled \u201cDynamic vehicle vibration damper\u201d\ndiscussed the more reliable and conventional dynamic vibration damper having\nthe capability of changing the resonant frequency as the car design changes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patent <a href=\"https:\/\/worldwide.espacenet.com\/publicationDetails\/biblio?CC=CN&amp;NR=208778576U&amp;KC=U&amp;FT=D\">CN208778576U<\/a> titled \u201cDamping device on body of a\nmotor car\u201d reveals a shock absorber that increases the comfort level of the rider\nand reduces the noise. It slows down the vibration sensation and abrasions by\ninstalling different components such as rubber tube drum, stainless steel\nspring inside the damper, spacing block in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently filed patent application\n<a href=\"https:\/\/worldwide.espacenet.com\/publicationDetails\/biblio?CC=CN&amp;NR=109488152A&amp;KC=A&amp;FT=D\">CN109488152A<\/a> &#8211; \u201cA kind of rotary damper and a kind of\nelectric pushrod device,\u201d a rotary damper is disclosed in which the area exposed\nto the frictional force is larger and the length of this radial damper is allowed\nto be made small.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to this, in another recent\ndevelopment related to the structural enhancement of shock absorbers, the\npatent <a href=\"https:\/\/worldwide.espacenet.com\/patent\/search\/family\/068317053\/publication\/TWM582090U?q=pn%3DTWM582090U\">TWM582090U<\/a> titled \u201cVehicle shock absorber structure\nwith secondary cylinder\u201d discloses a shock absorber having a secondary cylinder,\ni.e. sub-cylinder with piston for the length adjustment of shock absorber body\nas well as the buffer stroke.\n\nHence, the enhancement in shock absorbers and their\nstructural design is a continuous process.
