We have all seen that Google, IBM and Apple have at all points tried to bring in features related to automatic reply in case of unavailability. Surely they can be helpful but at the same time they are too mechanical and does not have a human emotional element attached to it. Now seeing from the latest Amazon patent, U.S. Patent No.9,363,104<\/a> titles \u2018Customized speech generation\u2019, we can see that Amazon tries to bring in the human element into these automated replies. The system will have the ability to understand whether it\u2019s the co-worker calling, your best friend or your Wife calling and will customize these replies accordingly. If you are stuck in a meeting with a dreadful boss, and one of your co-worker or a client is calling, it can reply saying Hi Mr. X, currently in a meeting. I will however, call you after the meeting is over.<\/p>\n

On the contrary if it\u2019s your wife, it can reply saying Hey Sweetheart, will call you back as soon as possible. It just adds emotional element to a conversation and in turn makes the caller less pissed at you.<\/p>\n

What makes this patent different from various automated reply functionalities in the past is the fact that after replying several times, it recognizes a behavioral pattern and then provides multiple options to choose from in replying under various circumstances. The greeting patterns or words used with your wife will be different than what you use while addressing a colleague and it will be smart enough to recognize all of that. Even while writing an email, it will be able to understand that if the email is for a potential client, what the tone of the email going to be is.<\/p>\n
